Just three days before the start of the much-anticipated World Test Championship final at The Oval, Australia suffered a major setback as a star bowler was ruled out of the campaign, forcing a late change to the squad. Ahead of the match against India starting from June 7, experienced seamer Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out due to his ongoing Achilles and tendon issues.
Hazlewood has been struggling with the injury for a long time and this led to his late joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the recently concluded IPL 2023 season as well. And the battle continued even after the early end of the campaign, with Australia deciding not to take any further risks with the fast bowler with a busy schedule ahead.
Australia named all-rounder Michael Neser as his replacement.
